Foods to Eat to Help with Fitness

From the Men's Health editor, David Zinczenko, here are 8 foods that will help with your health and fitness:

Pineapple and Papaya: muscle recovery- they are loaded with bromelain and papain, enzymes that help break down proteins and also have anti-inflammatory properties

Salmon: cardiovascular fitness- fish oils and consuming fish have the same effect over a couple weeks, which is to decrease heart rates and decrease oxygen consumption during exercise

PB&J or Pasta with meat sauce: muscle building and repair- good sources of protein and carbs, both key in building new muscle and repairing old muscle)

Pork Tenderloin: waist trimming- "lean meats are a great low-calorie source of protein". A study from McMaster University found that eating more protein may reduce the fat around your midsection.. So this is more about a lean meat than just pork tenderloins.

Chocolate milk: British researchers have found that milk does a better job than any other drink at rehydrating the body after exercise.

Coffee/ caffeine: "pain relief- University of Georgia scientists revealed that taking a caffeine supplement (equal to two cups of coffee) after exercise reduces muscle soreness more than pain relievers."

Cold water: endurance- as if we need more reason to drink water.. the key to this part is the cold water because it may be the best direct way to reduce core body temperature

Green Tea: "muscle recovery- Brazilian scientists found that participants who consumed three cups of green tea every day for a week had fewer markers of the cell damage caused by resistance to exercise"

David Zinczenko is one of my favorite fitness professionals, if for nothing else, for writing the Eat This, Not That books. This is a cool article to look at and very good information!
